Unemployment Rate Rises to 11.1%
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Just days into his new position as Executive Director for the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce, or DEW, Abraham Turner reveals new steps to reverse jobless rate. The native South Carolinian and military veteran say he comes with a ‘renewed emphasis’ on job training as it relates to putting people back to work. He plans to visit each of the 35 workforce centers in the state to see what’s wrong and implement solutions. He believes when his own employees embrace a new sense of commitment to job training, they will be better equipped to find the right jobs for the right people. In addition to training, he says it will take a collaborative effort between businesses and legislators in order to turn the state’s jobless situation around.
