Man arrested in connection with Jerk Hut shooting

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Richland County deputies say the person responsible for last week’s shooting at a Midlands restaurant is in custody.

Sheriff Leon Lott says Azavius Jones was arrested Monday, June 22 in Bennettsville.

Deputies say last Sunday, June 14, Jones opened fire outside of the Jerk Hut restaurant on Zimalcrest Drive killing one person and injuring five others.

Sheriff Lott says there is no where suspects can hide to avoid capture.

Richland County Sheriff’s Department says Jones will go directly to prison to begin a seven year sentence for a parole violation.

That sentence is not related to the shooting at the Jerk Hut.
