Judge blocks ban on SNAP junk food
(CNN)– An attempt by five states to ban the purchase of sugary drinks and candy with food stamps hits a legal roadblock.
The Trump Administration had issued waivers that allowed some states to restrict those food item purchases through snap.
But a district judge in Washington D.C. ruled Tuesday, June 23, the Department of Agriculture didn’t have the authority to approve waivers in the five states.
The decision came after five food stamp recipients filed a lawsuit saying they need the restricted items for health and wellness.
