AG Wilson announces grants for crime victims

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Wednesday morning (September 23) Attorney General Alan Wilson met alongside advocates from across the state to announce this year’s grant funding for victims’ services groups.

Wilson says over $29 million will be distributed to help local non-profits, police departments, and state agencies provide needed services.

The grant money is used to support victims of violent crimes, domestic violence, child sexual assault, and human trafficking.

According to the South Carolina Victim Assistance Network, some of the most requested emergency needs include lodging, groceries, home repairs, and crime scene clean-up.

Steven Burritt, the regional executive director of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, says the grants are a lifeline for their organizations, the same way the organizations are a lifeline for victims.

The attorney general reminds victims of crimes that they are not alone and there are numerous organizations available to help 24/7.
