Drivers having problems on slick roads

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – The South Carolina Department of Transportation has been hard at work. Officials say the mix of temperatures and rain is creating hazardous driving conditions on some roads. The hot spots appear to be contained to the Upstate and just outside Charlotte. We’re referring to Interstate 85, Interstate 385, Interstate 26 around Laurens County and Interstate 77 in York County. Crews have been working around the clock in the last 24-hours trying to prepare and keep up with mother nature. So far, the Department of Transportation – as of 6am – has used more than 4,000 tons of salt, about a thousand tons of sand, 11,000 gallons of calcium chloride, 475,000 gallons of salt brine and close to 250 pieces of equipment.
