Cable lines in Beaufort to be buried
BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) — Utilities are working to get rid of overhead power lines in Beaufort and the local telephone and cables companies will have to follow suit.
The Beaufort Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/nyxhwv ) that the city wants all other utility lines buried when South Carolina Electric & Gas buries its lines.
The city is prioritizing areas where lines should be buried first and those recommendations are expected later this week. City manager Scott Dadson says the goal is to get all utility lines underground.
A proposed city ordinance would make it illegal for cable companies to refuse to bury their lines when SCE&G does.
