5 people robbed while fishing in Beaufort

BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) — Beaufort Police say five people were robbed at gunpoint while they fished from a railroad trestle over the weekend.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (http://bit.ly/nAyn8A ) the incident happened Saturday afternoon.

A couple and a separate group of three men were fishing from the trestle when they were approached by four men who pulled out handguns and demanded cash.

The victims were robbed of money and jewelry worth about $550. The bandits also took the victims’ cell phones and threw them in the water.

Police searched the area with dogs but did not find the suspects, described as in their teens or early 20s.
