West Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)– Hillary Clinton makes a campaign stop in the Midlands. The democratic front runner met with voters Thursday morning at Brookland Baptist Church in West Columbia. The White House hopeful says we have so much to be grateful for here in America, but we have to be honest enough to face our problems. Those issues were some of the things Clinton highlighted during Thursday’s forum. “We’re either going to go forward together or we’re going to stall and go backwards,” Clinton tells voters. For Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton, one key element in moving the nation forward is addressing the economy, saying, “Well, I’ll tell you, trickle down economics doesn’t that’s why I’m laying out an agenda about how we raise income for hard working Americans.” Those hard working Americans include young middle aged and older women. Clinton says that supporting females in the work place will aid in bettering the economy. “Equal pay, paid leave, child care, these are not just women’s issues. They’re economic issues, they’re South Carolina issues and they’re American issues,” says Clinton. The former Secretary of State also spoke out on what she considers to be another American issue, systemic racism. She says, “I think it is essential that we all stand up, say loudly and clearly, yes black lives matter.” We all have a responsibility to face these hard truths about race and justice honestly and directly.” While she commended state leaders for their removal of the Confederate Flag from Statehouse grounds, she says the country as a whole has a long way to go in dealing with race relations. According to Clinton,”You have to rebuild bonds of trust and respect between elected officials and those whom they serve, between our law enforcement and the communities they serve.” Things she hopes to accomplish with the help of the American people. Clinton says, “We will get more done if everybody is on the same team, the American team. We’ve got a lot to do but I’m excited about our capacity to do it.”
