5K race honors fallen Columbia firefighter

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Authorities in the Columbia area are teaming up for a 5K race to remember a fallen firefighter.
Irmo Fire Chief Mike Sonefeld and Columbia Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins are hosting the first Gone But Not Forgotten 5K on Sunday in downtown Columbia.
The race starts and finishes at the SC Midlands First Responders Memorial at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.
All proceeds will benefit Salkehatchie Summer Service, a servant ministry program where high school and college-age youth and adult community leaders upgrade homes in need.
This year’s race honors Chance Zobel, a Columbia firefighter who died in November 2010 while fighting a brush fire alongside Interstate 20.
