SC’s Myrtle Beach to expand boardwalk, add eatery
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — Myrtle Beach is going to expand its boardwalk and create a new city park after the city council reached an agreement with a developer who plans to open a new restaurant in the area.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported Wednesday (http://bit.ly/xpy23W ) that council members unanimously approved a proposal by Chip Smith of Coastal Dining and Entertainment.
Smith wants to move several alleyways to create a 60-foot wide oceanfront area that the city would use for a new park. Smith’s organization also would build a 425-foot extension of the boardwalk that will run in front of its Mexican restaurant Banditos, which is to open in May.
Mayor John Rhodes says the project means several lots that hold decaying properties will be replaced with new amenities.
