Families of recent mass shooting victims testify on Capitol Hill
CNN– Testimony is underway on Capitol Hill, as lawmakers hear from families of victims of the elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas and those shot at a grocery store in Buffalo, New York.
Congressional Democrats have been calling for stricter gun control after the recent rash of mass shootings. A bipartisan group of senators are in talks right now to see if they can find common ground on some kind of gun law legislation.
The hearing is a chance for people directly impacted by gun violence to share their experiences. Democrats have a majority in the Senate, but they control only 50 seats and would need at least 10 Republicans to join them to advance any kind of gun bill.
It won’t be easy, given widespread opposition to gun control from Republicans, but the goal is to have an agreement by the end of the week.
