Columbia , S.C. (WOLO) — The Forest Acres Community came together Wednesday after an officer was killed in the line of duty. Outside the Police Department, the flag flew at half-staff and bouquets of flowers laid below as residents honored officer Greg Alia, who was shot and killed Wednesday morning. “It really affected all of us as mothers and as community members, it was very tragic,” said resident Anne Reynolds. Amid news of the tragedy, dozens of residents flooded the Forest Acres Police Department to pay their respects to Officer Alia and the entire department who lost one of their own. “It was the first thing we could think to do, we didn‘t know what else to do so we thought well if we can support the police department by bringing them something to eat then that’s the least we could do for all that they do for us,” said Reynolds. In a statement, Mayor Frank Brunson expressed the communities heartbreak and said “We ask that everyone pray for and think about the Alia’s; as we honor Greg’s memory and follow his lead of service above self.” The Forest Acres Restaurant and Merchant Association has also set up a go-fund me page, to donate visit this link : https://www.gofundme.com/5q5b6v9s You can also donate to the Law Enforcement Chaplaincy for Emergency Fund at any First Citizens Bank in South Carolina.
