Update: Richland County Flood Status

(RICHLAND COUNTY)–Emergency officials shift to recovery mode after this week‘s catastrophic flooding, the public is asked to make note of the important information listed below. Dams DHEC officials have inspected several dams in the area: No breaks found in Beaver Creek (a controlled breach was performed by DHEC) , Upper Windsor and Lower Windsor dams. Forest Lake dam found to have debris blocking spillway, but no breaks were found. Lake Katherine found to have significant water going over the spillway. Residents are urged to use caution. Shelters Open in Richland County one space· AC Flora High School, 1 Falcon Drive one space· St. Andrews Middle School, 1231 Bluefield Drive (Pets permitted, have them in crates or on leashes) one space· Lower Richland High School, 2615 Lower Richland Blvd., Hopkins, SC (Pets permitted; have them in crates or on leashes) Rescue and Recovery Efforts Public Works has set up a centralized command center to serve as the focal point for streamlining the County’s response to emergency repairs to its infrastructure. Teams will inspect and do an initial assessment of its roads: 560 miles paved, 217 miles unpaved roads, six known County maintained bridges and various culvert crossings.
