Sheriff: ‘We’re not baby sitters.’

ORANGEBURG, SC (WOLO)– After the shooting death of a 14-year-old and vandalism to the local high school, reportedly by another 14-year-old and a 16-year-old, Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenel reprimands parents and urges them to keep a closer eye on their teenagers. Ravenel addressed members of the media today to ask for parents’ help in keeping the community safe. He says three people are in custody and a 14-year-old is dead after the attempted robbery of a suspected drug dealer. Authorities say at 11:55 Monday night a deputy heard gun shots and was flagged down on Courtney Lane in Cordova by a man who said his friend had been shot. Investigators say further investigation revealed that the victim, a 14 year old boy, and two other men John Riley and Jerrell Richardson had planned to rob Calvin Busby, a suspected drug dealer. Riley and Richardson have both been arrested and charged with armed robbery. Busby was also taken into custody and charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana.
