Gamecocks extend nine-game winning streak on day one in Orlando

No. 24 South Carolina softball extended its season-high winning streak to nine games with a pair of wins over Louisville and Bradley to open the D9 Citrus Classic on Friday at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Carolina started the day with a 5-3 win over the Cardinals before closing the day with an 8-0 victory against the Braves.

South Carolina women’s basketball will celebrate seniors Lindsey Spann and A’ja Wilson prior to Thursday’s 6:30 p.m. tipoff against LSU at Colonial Life Arena. No. 24 South Carolina softball extended its season-high winning streak to seven games with a 5-0 win over North Carolina on Tuesday night at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field. Dixie Raley, in just her second start at Carolina, moved to 3-0 on the season with the victory in four innings of work.

The Gamecocks (21-5, 10-3 SEC) have three games remaining this season, including two against teams also competing for one of the coveted top four seeds in the SEC Tournament, which begins Feb. 28 in Nashville.

Holden Leaves Men’s Basketball Team

University of South Carolina head men’s basketball coach Frank Martin announced on Saturday that junior guard Kory Holden has made the decision to no longer be part of the Gamecock men’s basketball program. Holden has seen action in 14 games this season, missing 11 contests due to a hamstring strain suffered in late December. Holden transferred to Carolina after two seasons at Delaware prior to the 2016-17 campaign.
