A bipartisan group of 20 senators reached a deal over the weekend, in what could be some of the most significant congressional action on guns in decades. Although it falls short of the tough restrictions he was calling for, President Joe Biden says this is a step in the right direction after a streak of mass shootings across the country.

The House select committee investigating the January 6 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol held its first primetime hearing last night. The committee chair called the attack a culmination of an attempted coup by former President Donald Trump and his allies, accusing them of spreading lies and threatening American democracy as they tried to overturn the 2020 presidential election results.
