Clemson Cruises To 9-2 Win Over Furman

Pitching in his last regular-season game at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, senior righthander David Haselden pitched a career-long 7.2 innings and gave up just two runs to lead Clemson to a 9-2 win over Furman on Tuesday night. The Tigers, who won the season series 2-0, improved to 32-21, while the Paladins dropped to 23-29. Clemson had beaten Furman 12-5 at Fluor Field in Greenville, SC on April 10.

RB Mike Bellamy Won’t Return To Clemson

Mike Bellamy, the second leading rusher on Clemson’s 2011 ACC Championship team, will not return to Clemson for the 2012 season. The freshman from Nocatee, FL has been ruled academically ineligible for the fall semester and plans to enter a junior college this summer.

USC’s Staley Wins National Award

University of South Carolina head women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley was named Female Coach of the Year by Black Coaches and Administrators (BCA), the organization announced. Staley led the Gamecocks to their most successful season since 2001-02 as the team finished with a 25-10 overall record, including a 10-6 mark in SEC action, and earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.

SC Athletic Hall Of Fame Enshrines Class of 2012

Late NASCAR executive Jim Hunter’s home state honored him Monday, enshrining him into the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame. Hunter was among eight inductees, including: former Augusta National Chairman Hootie Johnson, former Clemson and NBA standout Dale Davis and ex-NFL star running backs Stephen Davis and Duce Staley.

FSU Salvages Game Three At Clemson 9-5

Top-ranked Florida State pounded out 16 hits en route to a 9-5 win over Clemson in front of 4,965 fans in the second game of a doubleheader at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Monday night. The Seminoles, who clinched the ACC Atlantic Division title win the victory, improved to 41-11 overall and 22-5 in the ACC. The Tigers, who won the series 2-1, fell to 31-21 overall and 16-11 in ACC play.
