Tourists top Fireflies to claim series Friday

The Fireflies’ rally fell short on Friday night at Spirit Communications Park. Columbia had runners at second and third in the bottom of the 10th, but stranded both and dropped the series finale 5-3 to the Tourists. Asheville claims this three-game set, taking two out of the three over a two-day span.

Former Clemson All-American qualifies for Wimbledon

Former Clemson men’s tennis All-American Yannick Maden won three qualifying singles matches, including a thrilling five-setter in his final match, to qualify for the main draw of the 2018 Wimbledon Championships, to be held in Great Britain beginning on Monday, July 2. With the wins, Maden has qualified for the first Grand Slam Championship of his professional career. 

Tim Tebow makes Double-A All-Star Game

The Eastern League announced today former Firefly Tim Tebow will represent the Binghamton Rumble Ponies at the 2018 Eastern League All-Star Classic, hosted by the Trenton Thunder on July 10 & 11.

Fireflies split doubleheader with Tourists Thursday night

Columbia split its doubleheader against the Asheville Tourists on Thursday after starter Anthony Kay led the Fireflies to a 4-2 victory in the night cap. Game one was a tight one that lasted into extras, but, alas, it was Asheville that came out on top, 5-3, in nine innings.

Gamecocks Volleyball announces 2018 schedule

The South Carolina volleyball program released its 2018 schedule on Wednesday. The Gamecocks, under the direction of first-year head coach Tom Mendoza, hold their annual Garnet and Black scrimmage on Aug. 18, and kick off the regular season on Aug. 24 with a weekend home tournament.
