Fireflies edge Charleston, 3-1 behind Joe Cavallaro's career night

Joe Cavallaro had a confidence and swagger on the mound Friday that Charleston’s hitters could not match. The righty fanned a new career-high nine batters and led Columbia to a 3-1 victory. The Fireflies have taken the first two games of the series and won three straight.

Gamecocks set to host Columbia regional starting Friday

No. 11 South Carolina softball opens the Columbia Regional on Friday at 7:30 PM ET on ESPN3 against UNCG. The winner will move on to face the winner of the Liberty and Hofstra game while the losing team will play in the elimination game on Saturday following the winner’s bracket game.

Fireflies take game one vs. RiverDogs, 2-1

The Fireflies stole a victory right out of Charleston’s grasp on Thursday night at Joe Riley Park. Columbia turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead – which wound up being the final score – in the eighth inning to clinch a come-from-behind win. The Fireflies are now three games above .500 for the first time in 10 days.

Former USC assistant AD Jeff Barber named Athletic Director at Charleston Southern

Charleston Southern University introduced Jeff Barber as the school's new Athletic Director on Thursday afternoon at the Buccaneer Field House. Barber, who spent a decade as an administrator at the University of South Carolina and another 11 years as athletic director at Liberty University, becomes the third A.D. in CSU history. He will assume his duties on June 1.

Davidson makes history as No. 9 Clemson scrunches Pitt, 16-6

Logan Davidson became the first Tiger in history to hit a home run from both sides of the plate and Patrick Cromwell added two home runs in No. 4 Clemson's 16-6 victory over Pittsburgh at Charles L. Cost Field on Thursday night.

Coastal's game with Appalachian State moved to Friday

With Thursday’s baseball game featuring #16 Coastal Carolina and Appalachian State being postponed due to inclement weather, the teams are now scheduled to play a doubleheader on Friday (May 18) with game 1 set for Noon and game 2 to start approximately 45 minutes after the completion of game 1.

SEC visionary: Former Commissioner Mike Slive dies at 77

Slive died Wednesday at the age of 77 in Birmingham, Alabama, where he lived with his wife, Liz, three years after retiring to battle prostate cancer. The Southeastern Conference did not provide the cause of death.

Gamecocks fall short at NCAA Regional

South Carolina was unable to get the low final round it needed Wednesday at the NCAA Bryan Regional, as it shot 295 (+7) to finish 7th at 18-over for the tournament. The Gamecocks 2017-18 season ends just shy of the program’s 21st trip to the NCCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship.

Clemson, Redman finish second at NCAA Regional

Bryson Nimmer fired a five-under par 67 and Doc Redman added a three-under-par 69 on Wednesday to lead Clemson to a second-place finish at the NCAA Bryan Regional near College Station, Texas. 

Clemson reaches 40-win mark, bests Kennesaw State

In his first career start, freshman lefthander Mat Clark allowed only one earned run in 5.2 innings pitched to lead No. 4 Clemson to a 7-2 victory over Kennesaw State in the Tigers' first-ever game at Stillwell Stadium on Tuesday night.
