WATCH: Fireflies edge BlueClaws 2-1 Friday night

The force was with the Fireflies on Star Wars Night in front of 5,682 fans at Spirit Communications Park Friday. Rigoberto Terrazas knocked in the game-winning run, Quinn Brodey, with a single in the ninth and gave Columbia a 2-1 victory over Lakewood. It’s the second straight walk-off win for the Fireflies – the first time this has been done in franchise history.

Claflin baseball stays alive in SIAC Tournament

The Claflin University baseball team avoided elimination from the 2018 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Tournament on Friday (May 4) by defeating with Paine College (11-9) and Clark Atlanta University (14-4) in the loser bracket.

No. 12 Gamecocks drop series-opener to No. 20 Kentucky Friday night

No. 12 South Carolina softball dropped a tough 7-5 game to No. 20 Kentucky on Friday night at John Cropp Stadium in the series opener of the three game series. The Wildcats scored five runs in the first as the Gamecock comeback effort fell just short in the top of the seventh. 

Gamecocks fall in NCAA Beach Volleyball Tournament

South Carolina’s beach volleyball team closed its season Friday afternoon at the NCAA tournament losing duals with No. 3 Hawai’i, 3-0, and No. 7 LSU, 3-2. The Gamecocks finish the season with a 24-9 overall record, their most successful to date.

Thursday’s series finale between Columbia and Lexington was as entertaining as it was whacky. The Fireflies notched just two hits but came away with a 4-3 walk-off win in 10 innings at Spirit Communications Park. The Fireflies won the series and improved to 3-1 in extras in 2018.

Teheran no-hitter into 7th, Braves blank Mets 11-0 for sweep

Julio Teheran took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning, 20-year-old Ronald Acuna Jr. hit his second big league home run and Atlanta routed the New York Mets 11-0 Thursday to complete a three-game sweep that vaulted the young Braves into the NL East lead.

Camden's Brooke Dixon earns Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award at Francis Marion

Francis Marion University senior women’s basketball player Briana Burgins, senior baseball pitcher Arien Seymour, and junior women’s basketball player Brooke Dixon have earned Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports-Scholar Awards for 2018.  The honors are presented by Diverse magazine, a publication that addresses issues in higher education.

Ainhoa Olarra headlines USC's two All-SEC honorees

South Carolina women’s golf standouts Ainhoa Olarra and Lois Kaye Go both received All-SEC honors, the league announced Thursday. Olarra was selected to the All-SEC First Team, while Go grabbed a spot on the conference’s Second Team.
