Professional BMX cyclists put on a show for the students at Columbia High School Thursday, Feb. 5, in an effort to rev up their engines against bullying.
Field day went high tech today at a Midlands high school.
“I was always working on something. I was that kid that was in the back yard with a go cart, trying to make it faster, have more fun on it. I mean I was working on motorcycles, just anything with my hands I was always doing, so I knew that I wanted to work hands-on within a program where I could learn something that would take me farther than just working on it in my backyard,” he says.
The students at Columbia High School were treated to quite the show Thursday morning by a group of professional BMX cyclists — all in an effort to prevent bullying.
A student at Columbia High is in custody tonight in connection with a stabbing incident Friday afternoon.
“Well the tech economy, the STEM economy, and aerospace — those are huge. With salaries starting at 6 figures, with hardly any college education required, we found that many of the students here had no idea that these were options,” says Obidike.
Through its partnership with a nonprofit organization called the Celebrate Freedom Foundation, the school will provide students with four new academies including pre-engineering, biomedical, cybersecurity, and aerospace.
Columbia High School and its alumni association will host the 2023 “Coming Home” alumni reunion celebration on February 3 from 4-11 p.m. in the Coach Bobby R. Young Gymnasium.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Department announced the arrest of a former school employee on sexual battery charges.
