The branch has a ‘Parents for Peace’ committee that aims to reduce violence in the community and support families that have been impacted.
Specialized deputies, known as the community action team, work alongside Building Better Communities.
“We are notoriously underfunded. Folks are really supportive of our work in word, and they even show up to our events. But when it comes to make sure that we have the money to continue to do this work, we are often the last to be thought of,” says Esper.

“Everybody wants to feel safe in their hometown. Everybody wants to feel safe in their community. Everybody wants to feel safe where they go eat or watch a movie. So that’s where I think the commonality is at for everyone, is we all want to feel safe in our community,” Fordham says.

According to Holbrook, one dashboard shows shooting statistics in the area including the location of the shots, and the age, sex, and race of the victims. Another dashboard shows Shotspotter data which detects and locates gunshots within a specific area.
