Volunteers prepare over 16,000 Easter gift bags for SC inmates

As Easter approaches, one Christian organization wants inmates across South Carolina to know that they are loved — and not forgotten.
Bryan Stirling with the SC Department of Corrections and Connie Munn with the SC Department on Aging say over 1,600 presents will be given out to long-term care residents — all made by inmates across the state.
Through an effort called “Operation Spread the Joy,” inmates from 20 different South Carolina prisons are helping to bring happiness to long term care residents with handmade gifts.
“I always talk to him and tell him to always shoot for what he wants, to be what he wants to be in life. And this ain’t the place to be at. Everybody makes mistakes, but you gotta correct them and do better. That’s why I chose this book,” says the inmate.
