“So being able to get to their senior centers which are in their communities — their local communities, who people know and respect — it will cut down on the risk of being exposed to other illnesses and the travel time it takes to get to specialists,” says Munn.
According to The South Carolina Institute of Mental and Public Health and The South Carolina Department on Aging, the release of its new report, entitled “Addressing Social Isolation in Older Adults as a Determinant of Health,” shines light on the health risks of social isolation in older adults and serves as a call to action for agencies around the state.

In the rural areas a lot of times we are forgotten or don’t know we’re there.
