Investigators say around 1 a.m. Thursday morning, K-9 Specialist Zaid Abdullah and K-9 Wick were in pursuit of a suspect on foot when K-9 Wick’s leash broke.
The branch has a ‘Parents for Peace’ committee that aims to reduce violence in the community and support families that have been impacted.
Taylor’s attorney also asked the judge to drop the attempted murder charge saying that the defendant did not mean to shoot at the deputy. Hodge believes Taylor was in fact aiming for him.
Specialized deputies, known as the community action team, work alongside Building Better Communities.
The project aims to bring affordable assisted living, healthcare, a marketplace and a police substation to the Lower Richland community.
For all of the charges, Barnard was sentenced to a total of two years in prison. Sheriff Lott says this sentence should have been closer to the maximum of 35 years behind bars.

The canine officer will help with wellness and crisis intervention with both deputies and civilians.
“We know in the Midlands that every time that bell rings, a mom sleeps a little bit easier because she knows her kids are going to eat dinner tonight. We know that every time that bell rings, a dad has hope and sleeps a little bit easier tonight because he knows his kids and his family are gonna have a roof over their heads,” Craddock says.
