(WOLO) IRMO, S.C., — The poppy is a vehicle to plant the seeds of future growth in a bunch of students.” And that’s exactly what Retired Colonel and now Commander of the Irmo High School Air Force JROTC Jay Seward says this display has done. Giving students and even some driver’s who may be passing along Saint Andrew’s Road a glimpse of the importance of what so many Veterans have sacrificed. ” a lot of people are called to do an awful lot of things that they would never of thought they’d do in some very trying circumstances. and it’s actually amazing how they rise to the occasion.” On this Veterans Day, it was the art and JROTC students’ turn to step up to the plate. Many of them spending 3 weeks to craft these 643 red ceramic poppies in the shape of a flowing river….to get people to stop and remember those who’ve fought and why. ” with a little bit of history and some art you can actually span a country and span an ocean in terms of the connection with people who in large measure share the same values as the Americans.”
