COLUMBIA SC (WOLO) – Rotator Cuff is made up of the group of muscles & tendons which connect the upper arm with the shoulder blade, and is very often the target of injury. According to Hima Dalal, you are at risk of rotator cuff pain if you play overhead throwing sports like baseball, cricket, overuse, injuries, falls, and even aging.
Although traditionally, surgery is the go-to treatment, Dalal says that occupational and physical therapy intervention is very valuable option to prevent from surgery. Manual Therapycan be used to decrease pain, increase the range of motion and improve function. Therapeutic exercise can be used to stretch and strengthen, but remember close supervision of therapist is must to avoid further injury.
Correct body mechanics and proper sequence of exercise is valuable to progress client to full function.
