Lawmakers introduce Logan’s Law
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WOLO)– One year after the murder of Logan Federico in Columbia, lawmakers are hoping to prevent a similar tragedy.
Wednesday afternoon, May 6, in Myrtle Beach, Senator Lindsey Graham and Congressman Russell Ott announced Logan’s Law.
They say it creates a publicly available registry of violent criminals to bring transparency to judges and prosecutors who give career criminals leniency.
It also directs the U.S. attorney general to submit a report to Congress identifying deficiencies in data sharing between federal and state governments, including fingerprint, warrant, and criminal history.
Logan’s parents were in attendance today.
In May of last year, Columbia Police arrested Alexander Dickey for Federico’s murder.
He’s accused of shooting her in a home she was visiting off Cypress Street.
Officials say he had previously been arrested 39 times and had been charged with 23 felonies.
