E-Learning schedules & closings due to possible severe weather
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Due to possible severe weather for Tuesday, January 9, 2024, multiple school districts in the Midlands will be going to an eLearning day & multiple businesses will close.
SUMTER COUNTY:
SUMTER SCHOOL DISTRICT:
Due to the possibility of strong winds, severe weather, and heavy rain on Tuesday, Jan. 9 schools in the district will be having an eLearning day for all students and staff in the Sumter School District.
The district says schools and office buildings will be closed, and all activities, including athletic events and field trips, are canceled.
MORRIS COLLEGE:
Morris College has announced that due to the threat of severe weather, the campus will close on Tuesday for all in-person classes and activities for faculty, staff and students.
Virtual classes scheduled for Tuesday will continue in their remote format, and all essential staff must report.
Officials say the campus will re-open for normal operations on Wednesday, January 10, with all classes resuming at 8:00 a.m.
TANDEM HEALTH:
KERSHAW COUNTY:
All Kershaw County School District schools will shift to e-learning on Tuesday, Jan. 9, due to potentially severe weather.
The district says all school buildings will be closed.
Teachers will be working remotely and will be available for student questions during their virtual office hours:
Elementary Schools: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Middle and High Schools: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
RICHLAND COUNTY:
RICHLAND ONE:
Due to the chance of severe storms with heavy rainfall and strong wind gusts on Tuesday, Jan. 9, Richland One students will have an e-learning day and Richland One employees will a work-from-home day.
According to the district, all schools and administrative buildings will be closed.
Also all afterschool activities that were scheduled for Tuesday, including sports events, are canceled.
The Richland One Board of School Commissioners meeting that was scheduled for Tuesday will be postponed, say district officials.
Richland One parents may pick up breakfast and lunch meals for their children from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Tuesday at one of the following locations: Lower Richland High School (2615 Lower Richland Boulevard, Hopkins, SC 29061), St. Andrews Middle School (1231 Bluefield Road, Columbia, SC 29210), or the Richland One Central Kitchen (1224 Whitney Street, Columbia, SC 29201).
RICHLAND TWO:
Officials with the Richland School District Two has announced that schools in the district will switch to an e-learning/remote work day on Tuesday due to the potential for severe weather.
All school buildings and district facilities will be closed and all after-school activities are canceled.
COLUMBIA COLLEGE:
Columbia College officials say all offices of the college will operate remotely on Tuesday, January 9.
The Student Union Dining Hall will remain open for service to residential students.
J. Drake Edens Library will be closed on Tuesday but will reopen for regular operating hours on Wednesday Jan. 10. Essential workers, including those part of the Office of Residence Life and Housing, Columbia College Police Department, Student Union Dining Hall, and Facilities, will report for normal operating hours. All classes, campus activities, and offices are currently scheduled to resume normal operation on Wednesday, January 10.
CONGAREE NATIONAL PARK:
All park facilities, campgrounds, hiking and paddling trails, will be closed through Tuesday, 1/9, with reopening anticipated for 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, 1/10, conditions permitting.
DENTS ADULT DAY CARE CENTER:
Closed today
RICHLAND LIBRARY:
Due to inclement weather conditions, ALL Richland Library locations will close on Tuesday, January 9, and are expected to reopen at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10.
RICHLAND CO. RECREATION COMMISSION:
Due to inclement weather, ALL Richland Co. Recreation Commission facilities will be closed on Tuesday, January 9 and will reopen Wednesday, January 10 for normal operating hours.
LEXINGTON COUNTY:
LEXINGTON ONE:
All Lexington One schools will shift to e-learning on Tuesday, Jan. 9, due to the possibility of severe weather in the area.
The district says the school buildings and offices will closed with teachers assigning both virtual instruction and/or take-home lessons.
Also, all afterschool activities and sports are canceled.
LEXINGTON TWO:
All Lexington Two schools will now have an eLearning day on Tuesday, Jan. 9, due to the chance of inclement weather.
According to the school district, all Tuesday afternoon and evening activities are canceled but Monday’s school day, as well as activities and programs, will continue as scheduled.
LEXINGTON THREE:
Lexington County School District Three has announced that all students and staff members in the district will have an eLearning Day on Tuesday, Jan. 9 due to the chance high winds and severe weather.
Also, all afterschool-related events are canceled and the Lexington County School District Three Board of Trustees meeting that was planned for Tuesday has been rescheduled for Tuesday, January 16th at 6 p.m. at the district office, said district officials.
LEXINGTON FOUR:
Lexington School District Four will transition to an eLearning day for all schools on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, says district officials.
MIDLANDS TECHNICAL COLLEGE:
ORANGEBURG COUNTY:
Orangeburg County School District:
Orangeburg County School District (OCSD) officials say the district will be moving to eLearning and remote work for students, faculty and staff.
eLearning Day for Tuesday, January 9, 2024:
All school and district buildings will be closed on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Also, all afterschool programs and athletic events, including practices and games, will be canceled as well.

Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College:
College officials say due to the threat of severe weather in the area Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College will be closed on Tuesday, January 9 but the college will reopen at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10.
NEWBERRY COUNTY:
The School District of Newberry County will have an eLearning day on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, says the district.
According to the district, all schools and offices will be closed.
FAIRFIELD COUNTY:
Due to potential high winds and severe storms, Fairfield County School District will have an eLearning Day on January 9, the school district stated on Facebook.
CLARENDON COUNTY:
Out of an abundance of caution due to the inclement weather, Clarendon County School District will have an e-Learning Day on Tuesday, January 9th, said the district.
All school activities and parent/teacher conferences have been canceled.
SALUDA COUNTY:
Saluda County Schools are switching to an eLearning day on Tuesday due to the potential of severe weather.
All sporting, school events, practices are canceled and all schools and offices will be closed.
LEE COUNTY:
The Lee County School District has announced that due to the probability of high winds and strong wind gusts all schools and offices will be closed on Tuesday.
The district stated that the day will be designated as an e-Learning day for students and staff members in the district.
Also, all afterschool programs, field-trips and extracurricular activities will be canceled as well.
CALHOUN COUNTY:
All schools in the district will have an eLearning day on Tuesday due to possible weather.
School will operate on a two hour delay on Wednesday, Jan.10. Staff is scheduled to report at 9 a.m. and students are scheduled to report at 10 a.m.
LEXINGTON-RICHLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT FIVE:
All Lexington-Richland School District Five schools, including the virtual FIVE program will transition to an e-learning day on Tuesday, Jan. 9, says the district.
Also, all afterschool programs and athletic events are canceled or will be rescheduled.
The district says they anticipate a return to normal operations on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, for “A” day classes.
