For the Health of It: Stress fracture rehabilitation

Tyler Ryan and Hima Dalal discuss causes and treatments for stress fractures

COLUMBIA SC (WOLO) – According to Hima Dalal, stress fractures in sports is one of the more common injuries of bones.  Stress fractures are tiny cracks in a bone one of the main reason for stress fracture is repetitive
application of force through a bone that is not strong enough to withstand it essentially, when the bone is weaker than is required for activity demands or exercise intensity a stress fracture occurs.

Common stress fractures occur in:
Runners may see them in the foot or tibia
Gymnast and cricket players, bowlers, softball and baseball players all may see them in lumbar spine area.

Osteoporosis is another common condition responsible for stress fractures. Obesity can also be responsible for ribs or pelvic floor stress fractures.

Overuse injury occurs when muscles are fatigued and unable to absorb the shocks, which causes tiny cracks in the bone stress fracture intensity of activity increasing too rapidly.

Running injuries can come from impact on unfamiliar surface, and using the improper footwear, plus increased physical stress for too long of a time playing sports like football, baseball etc.

Car accidents or sudden falls with compression.

Causes of stress factors in abnormal bones:
osteoporosis
Malnutrition
Amenorrhea

Simple activities or functional transfers ( sneezing is enough to Cause a stress fracture )

Hima says lots of times conservative traditional approach of Immobilization, and rest splinting.
Occupational and physical therapy techniques will resolve and help heal the fracture, however, in many instances chronic pain is associated with myofascial restriction and referred pain lingers For example you had a heel stress fracture which healed but you still have a groin pain.

Unexplainable pain like that requires integrative rehab modalities to resolve. The holistic health approach of treating person as a whole will help you relieve pain, regain functional range of motion, functional mobility and independence with functional activity without compensation. The modalities for example myofascial release and crystal myofascial release (Hima Dalal’s own technique), energy medicine work, yoga and mindfulness meditation are some of the good techniques that will help you recover to live the life to fullest.
