EPA announces new national drinking water standard

 

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The EPA has announced its new national drinking water standard for certain PFAS compounds.

Water utility companies will now have to get on board.

PFAS compounds are believed to have adverse health effects at low concentrations and can be found in some drinking water sources, according to DHEC.

The agency is keeping the state updated as it has been monitoring and testing PFAs since 2020 which includes sampling all 600 community water systems.
