Cayce’s top cop announces plans to step down

Cowan Swear InCayce, SC (WOLO) — After 30 years in law enforcement the Cayce Police Departments top cop announces plans to step down.
Chief Chris Cowan confirms that after 30 years working in law enforcement he will be taking on a new role that he says ” was an opportunity I could not pass up”. While Chief Cowan will no longer be taking down the bad guys, he will be teaching the good guys how to be better.

Chief Cowan,  the first police chief for the city of Cayce tells ABC Columbia News he is set to begin a new role at USC’s School of Law where he will be working in a professional leadership development program he says will take a comprehensive look at the professional development of law enforcement agencies across the state. The fairly new program will encompass a variety of issues focusing on excellence in policing,  including everything from Human Resources to Civil Rights.

Cowan says the decision to make the transition after being the Cayce Police Chief for the last three years was “a hard one to make”. Cowan says he has enjoyed working alongside the people of and leaders within the city of Cayce. In addition, he’s been proud to see the amount of growth that has been made in such a short time. He adds that one of South Carolina’s strengths is ” the professional network of law enforcement on the federal, state and local level” he has worked with. He says he is happy that he will still be able to work with these agencies, albeit a different capacity.

Chief Cowan’s last day will be July 17, 2024. An interim chief who will replace him has not yet been named.
