Local Principal Wins First Appearance on Jeopardy

Tune in Friday at 7:30 to See if She Advances

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A dream over 30 years in the making has come true for longtime educator Dr. Cheryl Guy. The principal of Westwood High School in Bythewood says she has a passion for trivia.

“Students who I’ve taught over the 20 plus years that I was in the classroom, I always told them that my goal in life was to be a Jeopardy contestant,” said Guy.

Guy said she’s wanted to be on Jeopardy since the 1980s. After  trying out for jeopardy several times over the years,  this time she finally got the call. She hopes her message of determination resonates with young people.

“I told the students here at Westwood that my story really is a lesson in perseverance. When you have a dream, you just keep trying, keep working towards it. There where years when I didn’t get invited to audition. I didn’t quit, I went back and took it again the next time they offered it and I just kept going because I was just convinced that this was something that I was meant to do,” said Guy.
Guy can’t reveal how well she does on the show, you will have to tune in for that, but she can tell us that she certainly had a blast. “It was so much fun, I can’t even. This ranks up there in the top experiences of my life right behind getting married and having my children.”
Will Dr. Guy do it again and win Jeopardy once again? Watch Guy compete again tonight on ABC Columbia at 7:30.
