SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A Sumter man accused of assault was arrested after a pursuit ended in a Lee County cornfield, said deputies.

Deputies said Daniel Frank McLeod was arrested on Sunday afternoon, after leading Sumter County deputies on a vehicle pursuit that ended in a crash in Lee County.

On Sunday, April 6, Sumter County Dispatch received a report of an assault in progress on Jerry Street.

As deputies responded to the call, a vehicle matching McLeod’s description passed them on the highway.

Deputies attempted a traffic stop using emergency lights and sirens, said Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

McLeod failed to stop and led deputies into Lee County before crashing into a cornfield.

He was taken into custody at the scene and then taken to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital for medical treatment.

Upon his release, he was served with multiple arrest warrants and booked into the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

He is being held on bonds totaling $49,087.50.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has also issued warrants charging McLeod with third-degree assault and battery and throwing bodily fluids by a prisoner.
