COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — “I’m not real happy with the resources and time we have spent on this case, chasing false leads and off on a direction that wasn’t true,” says Richland County Sheriff, Leon Lott.

Tuesday afternoon, an upset Sheriff Lott discussed Monday’s shooting involving former Gamecock running back, Kenny Miles.

Initial reports Monday stated Miles was shot around 1:00 p.m. Monday afternoon on Centrum Drive in Irmo. But, reports that Miles was a victim of a robbery are false, according to Sheriff Lott.

“At this point, the only thing I can verify to you is that Kenny Miles was shot, in the arm, yesterday,” says Lott

But when it came to the circumstances leading up to the shooting, Lott had no answers.

“Where he was shot, how he was shot… we do not know,” says Lott

Lott says there is one thing he does know, Kenny Miles was not robbed.

“Through our investigation and also from him, we’ve been able to determine that the initial report that he gave us, that we put out to the public, was not a true report,” says Sheriff Lott

In the incident report, obtained by ABC Columbia News, Miles gave a detailed description of the person he says shot him, he claims, while driving his car.

At the time of the report, the incident was an aggravated assault. We’re told that later changed to a robbery. But at what point it changed is unclear.

During his time as a Gamecock, Miles was a stand out.

He graduated in 2012 with a Criminal Justice degree.

Since August of this year, he’s worked in the Attorney General’s office as a support clerk, working in community outreach and youth mentoring.

At this time, Miles has not been charged in the case. Sheriff Lott says the investigation is ongoing. Miles has since tweeted thanking everyone who prayed for him. Saying quote,”I will be just fine people, I’m blessed y’all have a great day. Love you all.”
