Tyler’s Travels: A slice of pie, taste of pasta, and ping pong

The Tyler's Travels Team visits Villa Tronco to try the food of the oldest restaurant in South Carolina

COLUMBIA SC (WOLO) – In 1940, “Momma Tronco” brought the cities first pizzeria to the Capitol City, opening Villa Tronco in what was Columbia’s first full-time fire station.  During the war, Momma Tronco gave WWII draftees one last taste of Italian food as they got off the bus, ultimately  ending up at Fort Jackson for basic training.

Over eight decades, the business has been passed generation to generation, and will soon be operated by the fifth generation of the family, and has added many things to the menu, including ping pong.  Tripp Roche has also created a table tennis league, Carolina Pong, citing his love of the sport.

Tyler Ryan took the Tyler’s Travels Team on the road to sample some of the best food in town, and of course, play Forrest Gump’s favorite sport.
