Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr. to lie in state at South Carolina Statehouse

COLUMBIA, S.C. –  The body of civil rights icon Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr. will lie in state in the South Carolina Statehouse Monday, March 2, 2026.
 
According to a press release issued by Governor Henry McMaster’s office, Jackson’s family and numerous members of the South Carolina General Assembly made the request.  View the Jackson family’s letter requesting the honor.
 
The same day Jackson’s body lies in state, flags atop the Statehouse dome will fly at half-staff at Gov. McMaster’s direction.
 
The South Carolina Department of Administration is working with the Jackson family to coordinate the arrangements. As soon as more information is available, ABC Columbia will provide further details on-air and online. 
 
The Greenville, South Carolina native passed away last week. He was 84 years old.
