BASE: Gamecocks Drop Sunday Contest at Florida, swept in SEC opener

GAINESVILLE – The University of South Carolina baseball team dropped its Sunday (March 15) contest to No. 23 Florida, 13-3, in seven innings at Condron Family Ballpark.

Florida went up 3-0 in the first inning on a sacrifice fly and two-run double from Colton Schwartz. The Gamecocks tied the game in the top of the second on Luke Yuhasz’s three-run home run, his first as a Gamecock. Brendan Lawson’s three-run home run in the bottom of the second gave the Gators back their three-run advantage.

The Gators scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, capped by a grand slam from Cash Strayer. Florida added a pair in the fifth on a two-run double.

At the plate, Will Craddock was 2-for-4 while Yuhasz drove in three. The loss went to Alex Valentin, who allowed six runs in 2.2 innings of relief.

POSTGAME NOTES

  • Yuhasz now has 15 career home runs between Louisiana-Lafayette and Carolina.
  • Craddock now has eight multi-hit games.
  • The Gamecocks used five pitchers on the day.

UP NEXT

South Carolina will start a four-game homestand on Tuesday afternoon (March 17) with a 4 p.m. first pitch against Charlotte. The game will be streamed on SEC Network Plus.
