SC representatives to continue debate on redrawing state’s congressional districts

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — State representatives will continue their debate on a measure that would redraw the state’s congressional districts.

The effort was sparked when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Louisiana redrawing its congressional map.

Supporters like Attorney General Alan Wilson argue redrawing the districts is fair, constitutional, and based on shared interest rather than race.

Opponents like the American Civil Liberties Union argue the new map disenfranchises Black voters and disrupts the primary process which is already underway.

While speaking on CNN, Congressman Jim Clyburn, South Carolina’s only Democratic representative in Washington says he will run no matter who is voting.

The House Constitutional Law Subcommittee will discuss the measure Tuesday morning, May 12.
