HEAR FROM THE CANDIDATES — Evette, Wilson head to runoff as Johnson sweeps Democratic nomination

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — Primary election night has officially come and gone — with top GOP candidates, Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette and Attorney General Alan Wilson, heading to a runoff in two weeks, and Representative Jermaine Johnson sweeping the Democratic nomination with well over 50% of the votes.

Johnson was able to pull off the nomination without airing any commercials on television promoting the governor’s race.

Candidates held watch parties across the state, from Columbia, to Greenville, to Charleston, and Mt. Pleasant.

In the end, votes were as follows, according to the SC Election Commission at scvotes.org:

Because no GOP candidate was able to clear 50% of the votes, a runoff will be held on June 23rd for the top two candidates, Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette and Attorney General Alan Wilson.

U.S. Representative Nancy Mace endorsed Wilson, following her last place position in the race.

Evette and Wilson will take part in a debate on June 16th in Conway.
