South Carolina SAT scores up

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina high school seniors averaged higher scores on the SAT college admissions test for the second year in a row.
Multiple media outlets reported that the overall average increased six points from 2013 to 2014.
This year’s average score was 1429. The maximum score is 2400, 800 points each for reading, math and writing.
The national average was 1471.
The reading score increased from 479 to 483. The mat score increased from 484 to 487. The writing score average from 460 to 459.
State Education Superintendent Mick Zais said the increase is positive. But he said South Carolina needs to do more to prepare students for life after high school, whether that is college or entering the military or the workforce.
