SC National Guard dedicates new fire department

EASTOVER, S.C. (AP) — The South Carolina National Guard is dedicating a new fire department at its McCrady Training Center on Fort Jackson.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is being held Thursday morning.

The event is being attended by Brig. Gen. Roy Van McCarty, the Guard’s deputy adjutant general. Also attending are Norman Jackson of the Richland County Council and Chief Aubrey Jenkins of the Columbia Fire Department.

The training center provides the Guard a wide-ranging venue to train and educate service members for deployments.

It is also the site where Navy service members assigned to Army units may be trained in basic combat skills such as marksmanship, combat first aid, land navigation, urban operations and convoy operations.
