COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The University of South Carolina is hosting a symposium on the economic, health and human rights challenges in Africa.
The Barnes Symposium is hosted on Friday by the university’s School of Law and features scholars and leaders from around the world.
Participants are discussing the economic impact of the Ebola epidemic; the rise of the Islamic militant group Boko Haram and the growth of political ties between Africa and developing nations like Brazil, China and India.
The event is free and open to the public.
The symposium honors Rudolph C. Barnes Sr., a graduate of the school of law known for his leadership and involvement with numerous charitable and religious organizations.
