WATCH: Fireflies rally to beat GreenJackets, 7-2 Friday

Joe Cavallaro watched from the dugout on Thursday night as his teammates flummoxed GreenJackets hitters. The right-hander followed the script and struck out a career-high eight hitters (6 IP) on Friday, leading Columbia to a 7-2 victory over Augusta at Spirit Communications Park.

No. 11 South Carolina softball opened its three-game series against No. 20 Arkansas with a 2-1 victory on Friday night at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field. Cayla Drotar went the distance in the circle, allowing consecutive hits just twice on her way to her fourteenth victory of the season. 

#18 Coastal downed by South Alabama, 11-6

South Alabama took advantage of 15 walks, scoring 11 runs on just 10 hits, to claim an 11-6 victory over 18th-ranked Coastal Carolina in the opener of the three-game Sun Belt Conference series Friday evening before a crowd of 2,311, the 11th-largest in Springs Brooks Stadium history and largest for a Sun Belt contest in the facility.

Coastal Carolina football concludes spring practices

Coastal Carolina concluded its spring practices with its annual Spring Game Friday night at Brooks Stadium. The two hour session included various formats, including two live sessions that featured the first and second offensive units against the first and second defensive units.

Clean sweep! A'ja Wilson wins Wooden Award

South Carolina senior forward A’ja Wilson became the unanimous national player of the year with the addition of the John R. Wooden Award Presented by Wendy’s, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced Friday night. After four seasons of etching her name in the Gamecock record books, Wilson closes out her career in the Garnet and Black with the highest national recognition from every organization that bestows national player of the year honors.

Hornets guard named to USA basketball team

USA Basketball announced today that Hornets guard Kemba Walker is one of the 35 players selected to make up the 2018-20 USA Men’s National Team roster of players who are expected to attend the July 25-27 USA Men’s National Team minicamp in Las Vegas.

No. 11 South Carolina is set for a key SEC series as it plays host to No. 20 Arkansas for a three-game set starting Friday at 6:00 PM ET on SEC Network Plus. Saturday’s game is set for 2:00 PM ET on SEC Network Plus while the series finale on Sunday is scheduled for 1:00 PM ET on SEC Network Plus.

ACC announces 10-year agreement with Charlotte

The Atlantic Coast Conference and the Charlotte Sports Foundation have reached a 10-year agreement that will keep the Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game in Charlotte through the 2030 season, ACC Commissioner John Swofford announced Thursday.

Gamecocks top Georgia Southern Wednesday night

Freshman pitcher Kelsey Oh set the tone for the night, striking out the side in nine pitches to open the game as No. 11 South Carolina earned a 5-2 victory over Georgia Southern on Wednesday night at Carolina Softball Stadium. Oh didn’t allow a base runner through four innings until the Eagles poked a two-out single in the top of the fifth. 

Wesley Bryan’s role in the lengthening of Augusta National

The late Hootie Johnson fiercely defended the lengthening of Augusta National during his term as club chairman. The first overhaul added 285 yards after the 2001 Masters, and six more holes were lengthened after the 2005 Masters.
