Lawrence’s selection represents his first ACC weekly honor of the season and the eighth of his career. With eight career selections including Rookie of the Week honors earned as a freshman in 2018, Lawrence now ties Travis Etienne for the most by any active Clemson players.
The win marked Clemson’s sixth consecutive 1-0 start to a season and improved Head Coach Dabo Swinney’s week one record to 11-1.
The contest will be the 39th all-time between the two programs, dating to Clemson’s 17-0 win against The Citadel in the teams’ first meeting in 1909.
The Maxwell Award has been presented to the College Player of the Year since 1937 and is named in honor of Robert “Tiny” Maxwell, a former standout at the Swarthmore College and a renowned sports writer and football official.
