Carter led the team with 16 points (tied career high) and seven rebounds. Trailing by as many as 16 in the first half, he scored five straight points late to pull the Gamecocks within six at the break.
Three players on the SEC Coaches’ All-Freshman team is a high for South Carolina since the 2013 season when Pharoh Cooper (all-purpose and return specialist), Skai Moore (linebacker) and Elliott Fry (placekicker) were recognized.
Foster, a 5-10, 195-pounder from Duncan, S.C., is tied for the NCAA lead with five interceptions, the most for a Gamecock since 2004.
Leveque made 6 of 8 shots for the Gamecocks (6-2), who improved to 5-0 at home. Keyshawn Bryant and James Reese V each added 11 points with Bryant also having a team-leading eight rebounds.
The Gamecocks are no stranger to playing in Bank of America Stadium, as this will be their sixth appearance in the Queen City since 2011.
The Gamecocks improved to 8-0 for the first time since the 2015-2016 season.
Kingsley “JJ” Enagbare was named to the first-team unit as a defensive end. Tight end Jaheim Bell and cornerback Cam Smith earned spots on PFF’s All-SEC second team.
This is the team’s third trip in Mendoza’s four seasons as head coach, with the lone miss coming in last season’s modified 48-team tournament.
Carolina travels to Coastal Carolina for a Dec. 1 matchup at the beach. The contest is the Gamecocks’ first true road trip of the season.
