It was a long day, but the final long day for the Clemson football team during preseason camp. It was the final day of two practices, as the Tigers worked for 90 minutes in the morning and for two hours and 15 minutes in the evening.
South Carolina senior Matt NeSmith kicked off his third-straight U.S. Amateur appearance in strong fashion on Monday as he finished the day at the top of the leaderboard after firing an opening-round 65 (-5) at Olympia Fields Country Club’s South Course.
Clemson senior Miller Capps and graduate Billy Kennerly, both had outstanding first rounds at the 2015 United States Amateur at Olympia Fields Golf Club near Chicago, Ill. Capps fired an even-par 70 in the opening round, while Kennerly, who has used up his eligibility at Clemson, had a one over par 71.
The South Carolina women’s soccer team has been ranked No. 12 in TopDrawerSoccer.com’s preseason poll, as announced on Monday afternoon.
Clemson held its first full scale scrimmage of the preseason in Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
Sophomore forward Savannah McCaskill recorded three points and the Gamecocks allowed just one shot on goal, as No. 11 South Carolina moved past North Carolina State, 3-0, in its only exhibition match of the 2015 season on Friday night.
The first glimpse at the 2015 South Carolina men’s soccer team comes on Sunday under the lights at Stone Stadium, as the Gamecocks host Gardner-Webb in a 7 p.m. exhibition that is free to any fan wanting to attend.
Clemson held a physical, fast paced two-hour, 20-minute practice on Friday morning before taking the afternoon off for a team outing.
Billy Kennerly, Clemson’s top golfer for the 2014-15 season, won the Canadian Amateur Golf Tournament in Toronto, Canada on Thursday afternoon with a 72-hole score of 275, 12-under par.
