Major Job Fair: 500 Positions Available

The BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina group of companies is seeking registered nurses, accountants, auditors, accounting clerks and others to fill more than 500 open positions. High Speed Chase

CAMDEN, S.C. (AP) _ Authorities say a Greenville man is in jail after leading Kershaw County sheriff's deputies on a high-speed chase. Sheriff Jim Matthews said 22-year-old Joshua Damien Boyter was being held in the Kershaw County jail Monday for failing to stop for officers.

Police Charge SC Man with Killing 2, Injuring 1

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) _ Spartanburg County sheriff's deputies have obtained warrants charging a Greer man with killing his wife and brother-in-law and wounding his sister-in-law. Master Deputy Craig Bradley says warrants charge 69-year-old Jefferson Perry with attempted murder and two counts of murder.

USC and Clemson Move Up in Polls

The University of South Carolina ranks 14th in both the AP and USA Today Coaches poll released after this weeks win against Florida. The Clemson Tigers rank 7th in the AP and 8th in the Coaches poll.

Man Gets 15 Years in Myrtle Beach Shooting Death

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) _ A Myrtle Beach man will spend 15 years in prison in the killing of a man whose body was found near an Horry County park last New Year's Eve. Court records show 19-year-old Kendrix Corbitt pleaded guilty Thursday to voluntary manslaughter.

Man Arrested 5 Times While Awaiting Murder Trial

AIKEN, S.C. (AP) _ Prosecutors say they will ask a judge to revoke bond for a man arrested five separate times since he was charged with murder in an Aiken County shooting two years ago. The Aiken Standard reports (http://bit.ly/rZSPa5) that 22-year-old Freddie Simpkins' latest arrest came Tuesday on a second-degree burglary charge and he remained in jail on a $25,000 bond.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ The board overseeing South Carolina's environmental agency has approved a compromise with the Army Corps of Engineers over a permit to dredge the Savannah River. The agency's board voted unanimously Thursday to accept the agreement, putting Georgia and the federal government a step closer to deepening 35 miles between the Atlantic Ocean and the port of Savannah, Ga.

Marion Man Killed With Ice Pick in $14 Robbery

MARION, S.C. (AP) _ Authorities say a teen has been charged with murder after he killed a 66-year-old Marion man in his home with an ice pick in a robbery that got him $14. Marion County Sheriff Mark Richardson said 18-year-old Shaquille Davis was arrested Wednesday in the Sept. 21 death of Walter Prince.

Italian Citizen in Ravenel Cocaine Case Facing Prison Time

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ An Italian citizen charged in a cocaine case that brought down a South Carolina state treasurer has been sentenced to just over two years in federal prison. A federal judge on Wednesday sentenced 58-year-old Pasquale Pellicoro during a hearing on Columbia. Pellicoro could have received as much as 20 years in prison and faced $1 million in fines.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ People boating and fishing along the South Carolina coast should be on the lookout for company. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Fisheries Service says calving season has begun for the North Atlantic right while. That means the endangered creatures are making their way south from New England to the warm waters off South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

SUMTER, S.C. (AP) _ A Richland County deputy who was not charged in a fatal wreck this summer was at fault in four other wrecks while working as a Sumter County deputy a decade ago.

Riverbanks Zoo Receives Record $863,000 Bequest

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ Riverbanks Zoo and Garden is celebrating a bequest of $863,000, the single largest gift in its 37-year history. Zoo officials said Tuesday that Melinda Poole Grizzell, who died in January, provided for the gift. They say Grizzell moved to South Carolina from San Diego 20 years ago and was a constant supporter of the zoo.
