Man Gets 27 Years in Chester Club Shooting

CHESTER, S.C. (AP) _ A man has been sentenced to 27 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of a man at a Chester nightclub nearly two years ago. The Herald of Rock Hill reported (http://bit.ly/KAZ6zK ) 24-year-old Keith Kenner entered the plea Monday in Chester. Keener originally was charged with murder.

USC Falls Short 4-1, Arizona Wins National Title

The Arizona Wildcats scored three times in the top of the ninth inning to defeat the South Carolina Gamecocks, 4-1 Monday night in game two of the best-of-3 College World Series Championship Series at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha. The hard-fought win in front of an announced attendance of 23,872 gave Arizona a sweep of the championship series and ended South Carolinaโ€™s hopes of a third-straight title.

SANTEE, S.C. (AP) _ Authorities say a woman's body was found inside a parked van in Santee. Investigators say it appears 31-year-old Kathy Mack of Orangeburg was shot to death, but an autopsy has been ordered to confirm how she died.

The South Carolina Gamecocks survived their second elimination game of the day and kept their national title hopes alive with a 2-0 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks on Thursday night at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha. Three SC Guardsmen Killed in Afghanistan

Three South Carolina Army National Guard soldiers were killed in Afghanistan on Wednesday while conducting combat operations. 1st Lt. Ryan Davis Rawl, 30, of Lexington, Sgt. 1st Class Matthew Bradford Thomas, 30, of Easley and Spc. John David Meador II, 36, of Columbia were killed in Khowst City, Khowst Province, Afghanistan, when their patrol was attacked by a suicide bomber.

SC Senate Confirms State Inspector General

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ A 30-year FBI veteran will become South Carolina's first independent inspector general. The Senate voted unanimously on Thursday to confirm Patrick Maley (MAY'-lee), Gov. Nikki Haley's pick for the agency that investigates allegations of fraud, waste and abuse in state government.
