21 Year Old Clemson Student Drowns

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) _ The Pickens County coroner says a 21-year-old Clemson student who was swimming with friends has drowned. Coroner Kandy Kelley said that Prashanth Elangovan (praz-HAWNTH ee-LAWN-go-vawn) was swimming at Twelve Mile Recreation Area in Clemson at about 6:30 p.m. Monday when he went under and didn't resurface.

GOP Debate Wofford

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ The South Carolina Republican Party says GOP presidential candidates will debate at Wofford College. Party Chairman Chad Connelly announced Wednesday that the debate in Spartanburg on Nov. 12 will focus on national security and foreign policy and start at 8 p.m.

SC Medicaid Agency May Add 70,000 Kids To Program

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ The director of South Carolina's Medicaid agency wants to make it easier for low-income children who already qualify for health care coverage to enroll. Director Tony Keck is seeking an additional $35 million from the state in his 2012-13 budget proposal. Nearly $30 million of that would pay to add an estimated 70,000 children to Medicaid rolls by streamlining the application process.
